Summer Solstice 2021

“Both the Winter and the Summer Solstices are expressions of love. They show us the opposition of light and dark, expansion and contraction, that characterise our experiences in the Earth school so that we can recognise our options as we move through our lives.” - Gary Zukav

The Northern Hemisphere is in full abundance and fertilisation, as we reach the peak of summer with the Summer Solstice on 21st June, and this is the time to pollinate your ideas and visions.

We are being fuelled by nature to grow and nurture our dreams this month. In order to realise the intentions that you set over the winter solstice hibernation, you need to have faith in your intuition, follow your heart, be your own guru, and recognise all the synchronicities that are happening to connect you to the right people and opportunities.

Summer Solstice is an important festival to connect with nature and honour the faery folk. The veil between their world and ours is at its thinnest, and if you want to see them the lore goes that you need to rub fern seed onto your eyelids at midnight.

Traditionally birch, fennel, St. John's wort, orpin, and white lilies were placed over the front door and around the houses. Also rue, roses, vervain, and trefoil were revered for having magical properties on the midsummer. In Spain, Midsummer's Eve is called the "Night of the Verbena (Vervain)." St. John's Wort was especially honoured by young maidens who picked it in the hopes of attaining a future lover.

Interestingly, when this Pagan festival was Christianised it became known as St John's Eve, represented by the Feast of St John the Baptist, and celebrated on the 24th June, just as the Winter Solstice is celebrated on 21st December, and Jesus’ feast, on Christmas Eve, on 24th December.

Summer Solstice is a joyous celebration where people stay up all night in order to greet the rising sun. It is the time to honour the light, celebrate what we have learnt during the past six months and recognise how we have blossomed and grown, like the nature around us. It also represents change, the ending of a cycle and the beginning of a new one.

It is an opportunity to really thank Mother Earth for the wonderful experience that is Life.  For what has been – I thank you. For what is - I am grateful. For what will be – YES!!!!

The life-force energy is especially potent at this time, and everything that is happening around you is an opportunity to enable you to fulfil your intentions and dreams. The more you can let go of all expectations, and surrender, trust, allow, receive, the more abundant, magical and exciting life becomes.

The best course of action, as we reach the midway point of the year, is to trust life, throw your hands in the air, and enjoy the roller coaster ride wherever it takes you!
